My expectation for the first week of school was completely different that I’ve experienced. I have read a lot about the U.S. system of higher education and I was prepared to meet a lot of differences.
I didn’t expect to have opportunity to choose classes and to compose my own class schedule. I expect to have classroom learning environment more similar with Russian – teacher-centered classroom culture. It means that in my country often instructors (teachers, professors) evaluate students, but here (in the U.S.) students evaluate instructors, instructors evaluate students, classmates reckon up each other. For example I remember the first class when students have to tell about teacher's and student's duties. Obviously it can’t happened in Russia and it surprised me very much.
Because I studied in the different classroom culture for a long time, here I felt that I don’t study and each class seems to me like a funny game for one or two ours. I expected to memorize a lot of materials. Obviously the first week was really unforgettable to me and I am always open for new impressions.
